Abstract
Summary And Conclusion The introduction of the MEL may require Trusts to rethink their present procedures for handling glutaraldehyde. Making changes to current disinfection procedures can be complex and involve many groups of people both within and outside the Trust. Infection control teams working in conjunction with other health professionals, have an important role to play in ensuring that alternative agents are fully evaluated and fit for the intended purpose. This article suggesting that a proactive approach is taken to establishing the need for change and has outlined some steps to develop an action plan. If rapid action is required, then Infection Control nurses can have a key role in facilitating change.
