Abstract
Rosacea is a relapsing chronic inflammatory skin condition affecting the face and eyes that predominantly affects middle-aged Caucasian females. The exact aetiology remains unknown. The condition can be categorised into four main subtypes: papulopustular, erythemato-telangiectatic, phymatous and ocular. Symptoms can vary depending on the type and include erythema, flushing, papules, pustules, telangiectasia and, in the case of phymatous disease, swelling of the nose and ears. Rosacea can be effectively managed in primary care with self-care measures and topical or oral treatments depending on the severity. More severe forms or treatment resistant cases will need referral to secondary care for specialist input.
