Abstract
Gastroesophageal reflux (GOR) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD) in infants are common presentations to primary care, with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) reporting that 40% of infants display regurgitation of feeds (GOR), and more than 25% of infants suffer with daily GORD symptoms. Although GORD is a common condition, the symptoms can have a huge impact on the child and family and may negatively affect parent–infant bonding. It is therefore important that it is well managed, but without unnecessary investigation or treatment. Given the extremely high prevalence in infants under 1 year of age, this article will focus on the management strategies for this age group.
