Abstract
Termination of pregnancy, or abortion, is the intentional ending of a pregnancy. It is a common pregnancy outcome. In the UK, one in three women will have had a termination of pregnancy by age 45 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) deems it an essential component of good reproductive care. Worldwide, unsafe abortions are common and carry a high mortality, usually driven by restrictive abortion legislation. Abortion care should be freely accessible to patients when they require it and not carry stigma or shame. This article aims to highlight how abortions are delivered in the UK and how GPs can provide stigma-free abortion care.
