Smoking has significant economic and public health implications in the UK. Supporting people to stop smoking is a key responsibility of clinicians, and smoking cessation activities support people who smoke to give up smoking. Primary care clinicians should be equipped counsel patients opportunistically on smoking cessation, signpost and refer patients to appropriate services and prescribe pharmacological therapies.
