Abstract
Hip and groin pain is a common symptom in the athletic population. Kicking sports are the most affected, with groin injuries accounting for almost one fifth of all injuries in male club football. Despite the frequency at which these injuries occur, diagnosing the cause of hip and groin pain can be a challenge. Correct diagnosis and management of hip and groin injuries in primary care can improve outcomes in patients by reducing the likelihood of re-injury and avoiding the development of chronic issues. This article aims to discuss the common causes of hip and groin pain in sports, and how to assess, investigate and manage these injuries.
