Bronchiectasis is increasingly common in the context of an ageing population, and may be underdiagnosed. It is important that GPs are aware of when to suspect bronchiectasis, the role of primary care in managing these patients, when to refer to secondary care, how to recognise a deteriorating patient, and when hospital admission is required.
