Abstract
Type 1 diabetes with an eating disorder (T1DE) is common, and often unrecognised, in young people with diabetes. In general practice, this can be challenging to identify, and unfortunately patients with T1DE are at a greater risk of serious psychiatric and diabetic complications. A considered and detailed assessment is required to recognise this condition and to provide holistic care for patients and their families. This article, based upon a clinical case scenario, will highlight how the role of primary care is crucial to the early recognition, management, referral, and continuing support of young people with T1DE and their families.
