Abstract
GPs are ideally placed to identify and respond to concerns raised about children in relation to safeguarding. The most recent edition of the intercollegiate document, ‘Safeguarding Children and Young People: Roles and Competencies for Healthcare Staff, Fourth edition: January 2019’, outlines the core competencies, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values required of GPs in the area of safeguarding children. This paper attempts to summarise its recommendations under clear headings to give GPs practical guidance for their role in safeguarding children.
