Abstract
Myeloproliferative disorders are a group of stem cell disorders that can affect the production of red blood cells, white blood cells and/or platelets. Although rare, they are often diagnosed within general practice, most often incidentally, and are therefore important conditions for which primary care clinicians need to have a good understanding. This article aims to provide a clear and concise summary of what myeloproliferative disorders are, how they can present, how to investigate them, when to involve secondary care and what potential complications need to be paid attention.
