Abstract
The aim of this article is to outline the most common elbow joint pathologies that are likely to present in primary care, their management and indications for secondary care referral. The majority of common elbow conditions can be diagnosed clinically, and do not require specialist imaging or further testing. Patients are likely to present with longstanding problems caused by joint overuse; however, it is vital to be cautious of red flag symptoms which could prompt urgent referrals. It is also important to manage patients’ expectations and to support them with adjusting to limited joint mobility in everyday life.
