Abstract
Endometriosis is a common condition that is characterised by the presence of functional endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Presentation can vary, with some women experiencing painful symptoms whereas others have no symptoms at all. As endometriosis can present with a variety of symptoms, many of which are non-specific, there is often a delay between the onset of symptoms and diagnosis. The diagnosis of endometriosis begins with clinical history and physical examination, leading to further investigation and imaging techniques. The gold standard investigation remains laparoscopy. Medical treatment and surgery offer therapeutic options. It is commonly associated with subfertility, which also requires assessment and management.
