It is estimated that 7 300 000 people travel abroad each year from the UK, with potential exposure to a range of health risks. Although many of these risks are not vaccine-preventable, health professionals should be aware of these risks, be familiar with outbreaks of prevalent diseases in common destinations of travellers and be able to give advice on all preventative measures, including vaccinations.
