Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic inflammatory condition. Its classic presentation is as an insidious inflammatory polyarthropathy with associated synovitis, pain and eventually joint deformity and destruction. Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial in minimising long-term morbidity and mortality. Therefore, GPs need to identify and appropriately refer those suspected of having RA. This article summarises the role of the GP in the management of RA.
