Abstract
Patient safety is vital in health care to prevent harm. Approximately 234 million surgical operations take place worldwide each year, many of which involve preventable complications. This study assesses the effectiveness of a demonstration on surgical safety knowledge and skills among operating theatre practitioners at AIIMS Bhopal. A quantitative, quasi-experimental, post-test-only design was used, involving 60 operating theatre practitioners from AIIMS Bhopal, divided into experimental and control groups. The demonstration, which combined lecture and simulation of the surgical safety checklist, was followed by assessments of knowledge and skills using a self-structured questionnaire and a simulation observation checklist. Results show that the experimental group gained better knowledge and performed the surgical safety checklist more effectively than the control group, indicating that the intervention successfully improved knowledge and skills.
