Nurses are becoming much more active in the academic world. A recent survey I conducted into a specialty group of Registered Nurses showed 42 (54%) of respondent holding or working towards a Master Degree in the nursing field. The suggestion that nurses are undertaking higher education courses is also supported by the Australian Bureau of Statistics who in 2012 cited nurses as occupying 5% of all higher education courses conducted in Australia (Australian Bureau of Statistics 2013).
