Abstract
There are increasing demands placed upon the services offered by the modern NHS, the causes of which are wide ranging and complex. In combating the rising demands, new approaches to practice will form an overall strategy for improving the care delivered to patients. This is a two part series in which Mark Radford discusses an innovative approach to the management of surgical emergencies, through the specialist nurse program in anaesthesia and emergency surgery.
