The recent adverse incident at Middlesbrough General Hospital where neurosurgical instruments were used on a patient later diagnosed with sporadic CJD, and then reused on further patients, has major implications for us all as perioperative practitioners. This article looks at what happened and explores what can be done to prevent it in the future.
