It is estimated that every year one million people in Britain attend hospital as a result of a head injury (McMillan & Greenwood 1988). The age group most at risk of head injury is 15-29 years and a large proportion of young survivors will have a more or less normal life expectancy. This can have a serious impact on family life, roles and relationships both within the household and outside.
