A literature review of the development of the community psychiatric nursing service in the UK was carried out to locate influences on the emerging role of the CPN, to isolate components of practice, and to identify current issues for service delivery. This assisted in identifying differing models of practice prior to a review of the experience of CPNs with clinical supervision in their practice. Consideration of this will appear in the next issue of NTResearch.
