In the above-referenced article, the authors did not properly acknowledge the work of Lima Junior et al.1 earlier studies mostly focused on MCDM approaches such as AHP, fuzzy AHP, and fuzzy TOPSIS for supplier evaluation. There was a lack of studies, however, in comparing these approaches within the context of supplier selection. In Lima Junior et al.1 the authors compared fuzzy AHP and fuzzy TOPSIS for supplier selection. In their study, a comparison of the approaches considered the following factors: adaptability to changes in alternatives or criteria, agility in the decision-making process, computational complexity, adequacy to support group decision-making, number of alternative suppliers and criteria, and modelling of uncertainty. Moreover, their study was implemented on one layer of decision criteria problem, which is selecting the best supplier from five potential suppliers against five decision criteria. Thus, it was necessary to do a comparative assessment of various approaches with regard to supplier selection based on multiple layers of decision criteria.
To overcome this gap, the aim of Alkahtani et al was to implement a comparative analysis of such methods conducted to the supplier evaluation and selection problem. The selected approaches were AHP, fuzzy AHP, and fuzzy TOPSIS. A comparison of the selected approaches was then made considering the following factors: agility during the decision process, computational complexity, number of criteria and alternative suppliers, and Adequacy in supporting group decision-making. The study was implemented on multiple layers of decision criteria problem, which is selecting the best supplier from four potential suppliers against four decision criteria, and each decision criteria is divided into four sub-criteria.
