Abstract

How Did It Fit Into My Career Path?
As a researcher, I had used qualitative methods in my projects for some years and was interested in the effect of the added dimension of using visual methods. While working in the National Centre for Research Methods, my supervisor and mentors fueled this interest and provided me with the opportunity to explore the literature. This work came toward the end of my career in research, and this article’s publication date occurred after my retirement.
I therefore have not followed its impact in the field of visual methods; I would hope that it has resulted in more researchers providing a well-reasoned argument for their choice of a visual method and that attention has been given to evaluating the effectiveness of the method regarding the purpose for which it was selected.
