Abstract
A challenge for mixed methods researchers concerns integration in the methodological dimension. Employing a fully longitudinal mixed methods case study design, we examined the physical and psychological changes in a chronically ill older person via telenursing video consultations. We collected daily measures of his physical state and conducted clinical interviews before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our two-step approach integrated mixed data types, first, by making meta-inferences at five time frames during his illness trajectory and, second, by developing “global meta-inferences,” or interpretations across the meta-inferences from each of the five time frames using joint display analysis. We contribute to the mixed methods literature by illustrating integration in the methodological dimension through a fully longitudinal mixed methods case study.
