Abstract

Open access journals are described as scholarly journals that are available to a wider readership without having restrictions or barriers such as subscriptions, licensing, pay-per-view fees, and other financial or technological barriers. As an open access journal, the American Journal of Men’s Health (AJMH) will provide access to scholarly men’s health articles anywhere in the world that can be accessed electronically. Through open access, men’s health researchers, clinicians, and scientists will be able to read, use, and cite men’s health literature more readily.
Open access provides several benefits to the dissemination of men’s health research, scholarship, and clinical science. Some of the commonly reported benefits of open access journals are
increased access to articles;
greater utilization which promotes greater impact;
broader network of professional collaboration; and
facilitating faster development of men’s health specialty and science.
It is my goal that transitioning AJMH to an open access journal will significantly affect the use of our men’s health literature and promote the development of men’s health as a health care discipline.
AJMH’s editorial team remains committed to maintaining the high standards of rigorous peer review required for a referred journal. As editor, I will remain responsible for the content published in AJMH. As an editorial board, our board members will provide leadership and guidance along with ensuring we attract high-quality men’s health articles. The peer review and editorial process remains intact with our transition to an open access journal. Peer reviewers will continue to provide a recommendation on each manuscript’s acceptability for publication in the referred journal. The final decision to accept or reject a manuscript will be communicated to the corresponding author along with any recommendations provided by the peer reviewers to improve the manuscript. The editor’s decision regarding the disposition of the manuscript will remain final.
We remain committed to producing a high-quality, peer-reviewed men’s health journal to improve the health and social welfare of men. Please join our editorial team on this journey of transitioning AJMH to an open access journal by sharing the journal or articles with colleagues, submitting manuscripts, encouraging colleagues to submit manuscripts, and actively engaging with me as editor on your vision and hopes for AJMH in the future.
