In this case, a recently-hired teacher is arrested for child abuse. Students are asked to review the school district's hiring process, the teacher's job application, and references to determine whether a bad hiring decision might have been avoided had the district used better hiring practices. The case is designed for a class in personnel relations or human resources management. It can also be used in a course on school law.
