Abstract
This case is designed for use in courses that explore ethics or issues related to the change process. The superintendent in this case is faced with a decision that could facilitate the adoption of much needed reform in the district. This decision would not only assure better learning and brighter futures for thousands of students but avert his own firing. At risk is the self-respect of a single person.
This case can be used as a springboard to a discussion of professional ethics as well as the consequences of the change process. The case was developed for the Missouri Professors of Educational Administration through a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, 2003.
