Abstract
This case describes the people and events surrounding a gay club’s attempt to assemble in a schoolroom after hours. With less than two months of school remaining, a retiring principal is trying to manage school operations the best he can. Pressures from school and district personnel, parents, students, and community members all play intricate roles in redefining values, equity, and policy at Pleasantville High School. Organizational crises appear from alleged discrimination against the Gay/Lesbian Club. Based on district decision-making, officials soon discover themselves in legal difficulty.
