Abstract

Member News
Congratulations to Pablo Celnik, MD, the member honored by the American Society of Neurorehabilitation and the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation. He received the prestigious Outstanding Neurorehabilitation Clinician Scientist Award at the recent American Society of Neurorehabilitation/American College of Rehabilitation Medicine conference held in Montreal, Canada, October 20-23, 2010. His outstanding presentation was titled “Understanding and Augmenting Motor Learning for the Benefit of Neurological Rehabilitation.” His talk highlighted his use of transcranial direct current stimulation in effectively enhancing the motor performance of healthy as well as patient populations. The data he shared also reflect important information regarding the neurophysiology of motor learning.
Dr Celnik is an associate professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Neurology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He received his fellowship training with Dr Leo Cohen at the National Institutes of Health. His current research collaborator is Dr Amy Bastian. Dr Celnik is a current recipient of NIH funding with 2 RO1 and 1 R21 funded studies. He is currently the medical director, Outpatient Neurorehabilitation Program, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Johns Hopkins University, as well as director, Human Brain Physiology and Stimulation Laboratory, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore.
In addition to the recent Clinician Scientist honor, Dr Celnik is the recipient of numerous other awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), White House, 2010; Young Academician Award, Association of Academic Physiatrists, 2007; Best Paper Presentation, American Society of Neurorehabilitation, 2006; 2006 Dennis W. Jahnigen Career Development Scholars Award, American Geriatric Society; Clinician Scientist Award, Johns Hopkins University, 2006; New Investigator Award, Foundation for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, 2003; and 1997 Fellows Award for Research Excellence, National Institutes of Health.
The neurorehabilitation sciences community is fortunate to have an exceptional and productive researcher in Dr Celnik as an active member. He will continue to make outstanding contributions that will advance neurorehabilitation knowledge.
