Uterine Artery Pseudoaneurysm in a Patient with Persistent Vaginal Bleeding

Abstract

Uterine vascular abnormalities such as pseudoaneurysms, arteriovenous malformation, and true aneurysms are uncommon but potentially life-threatening lesions. A high index of suspicion is therefore necessary in making the diagnosis, especially in women of child-bearing age who present with unexplained vaginal bleeding. Predisposing factors to developing these conditions include a history of infection, curettage, therapeutic abortion, pelvic surgery, gestational trophoblastic disease, and endometrial carcinoma. The case report highlights the importance of color Doppler imaging in the detection and characterization of uterine vascular abnormalities.
