Information systems can present an enormous amount of information to a user. One of the important issues in the design of the user interface is directing the user's attention to the critical information in a situation, especially when a user's request for information produces an uncertain result. The purpose of this paper is to describe how a unique approach provides a solution to the problem of attention direction while simultaneously representing the database designer's intent to the user to facilitate user/system communication.
