Abstract
Procedures in the nuclear industry are likely to be driven by the technological advances in computers. Due to the increasing interest in automation, many human factors issues regarding the delivery of procedures are emerging. In existing American nuclear plants, for example, a major area of concern is the concurrent use of automated and hard-copy procedures. In future American nuclear plants, if all procedures are automated, issues of usability will be elicited. Because the technical database pertaining to the human factors aspects of procedure automation is sparse, individuals working in this domain face significant challenges.
