Abstract
Nonexperts must be encouraged to participate in ergonomics. This type of ergonomic activity is called participatory ergonomics or participatory approach (Noro 1990). It was planned to organize a class for teaching users how to use their chairs according to the participatory approach. Participants in the class sit on chairs and are taught how to sit on chairs. An office desk-chair adjustment worksheet and seating comfort rating diagram (Noro 1989) were used as tools for conveying the ergonomic view of participants to ergonomic experts. The information gathered by using these tools is fed back for model modification (Noro 1986) and teaching method improvement. The participants are company employees and university students. The organization of the class can be regarded as participatory approach.
