Abstract
This paper reports the status of a FAA project to support the application of advanced technology systems for aircraft maintenance training. The first phase of the research was to assess the current use of such technology in airlines, manufacturers and approved aviation maintenance technician schools. The findings of the assessment are reported. The second phase of the research will build a prototype intelligent tutoring system for aircraft maintenance training. The preliminary prototype specifications and rationale are discussed.
