Abstract
Identification of musculoskeletal problems in industry at an early stage presumably allows for an early control, safer environment and healthier workers. All of which can have a significant impact on the overall cost to employers. Unfortunately, there are numerous difficulties in collecting all relevant information with existing data collection methods. DAS (Discomfort Assessment System) provides and alternative method for the collection of subjective discomfort data. The system makes extensive use of graphics and was developed to collect musculoskeletal discomfort information from non-computer users. The information collected by DAS may be useful for: (1) detecting and controlling musculoskeletal problems at an early stage, (2) identifying high risk jobs, (3) evaluating the impact of ergonomic interventions in the workforce, (4) conducting fatigue surveys.
