Abstract
This paper summarizes findings on the utility of the Subjective Workload Assessment Technique (SWAT) as a tool for flight test and other test and evaluation (T&E) applications. SWAT is a multidimensional subjective rating instrument which combines ratings of time stress, mental effort, and psychological/emotional stress into a single workload scale with interval properties. A number of T&E programs were surveyed to determine how SWAT has been implemented and and to detail the difficulties that have been encountered. Recommendations regarding some potential procedural refinements are offered.
