Abstract
The effects of noise on decision-making performance was investigated. Thirteen subjects performed a decision task at three noise levels (55, 70, 85 A-weighted sound pressure levels in dB) and two levels of task complexity (single and dual task). Subjects were required to maximize their performance in five payoff contingencies. β and d' measures were compared in quiet (45 A-weighted sound pressure level in dB) and noise-stress (85 A-weighted sound pressure level in dB) conditions. There was a robust but not statistically reliable effect of noise level β values.
