Abstract
This paper examines the role of technology in creating new customer demands, the need for organizational flexibility, and the importance of worker participation. Moreover, the increased competition, and consequently, the increased complexity of these new technologies will create even greater needs for macroergonomic concepts in designing future systems. Finally, it is argued that participatory ergonomics and the introduction of new technologies need to be incorporated into a coherent organizational culture.
