Abstract
Personal interviews with 80 European and North American farmers were conducted to identify ergonomic design weaknesses and desirable features for with-cab and less-cab agricultural tractors. Interviews were conducted in both markets in view of differences in user requirements based on crops, soil conditions, and farming practices. Operators were required to comment on various aspects of tractor design impacting ease of operation, comfort, and productivity. Topics of discussion included seating, workspace layout, control arrangement and operation, displays, forward and rearward visibility, lighting, entrance and egress, and basic maintenance. A content analysis of over 350 operator comments was performed to identify subjects of major concern to operators.
