Abstract
The moped is presented with a dilemma of ridinq along the edge of the road and brushing elbows with traffic versus staking a claim to the center and forcing traffic to squeeze by. This study showed neither position to be universally safer than the other. However, in straight line operation, the center position was safest under high overtaking traffic density and the right position safer in lower density. When waiting to make a left turn, the center position was safer under high oncoming density and the left lane position safer under low density.
