Abstract
The experiment had 7 experienced male cyclists pedal on a stationary bicycle at a 180 watt load for 10 minutes two, times under each of two conditions: control (no toeclips and no cleats) and test (toeclips and cleats). The criteria were heart rate, Borg vote, and a semantic-differential vote. Heart rate was 160.7 for the control condition and 161.3 for the test condition; the means were not significantly different. Borg vote was correlated significantly (r = .42) with measured pulse. The semantic-differential vote indicated a preference for cleats and toeclips.
