Abstract
A unique approach which combined anthropometric data, human anatomical models, and artistic renderings was used to synthesize male and female manikin models representing the U.S. general population. The derivation of dimensions, joint locations and reach envelopes are discussed and scale drawings of the 5th percentile female and 15th percentile male manikins are presented. These manikins were used to derive console ergonomic requirements for next-generation air traffic controller workstations.
