This presentation explores how people learn from mistakes that they make when learning a computer text editor. The development of complex procedural skills is characterized by the frequent appearance of errors. Learners gain information about the characteristics of a system as they make errors and plan how to recover from error states. This project examines the processes of error recognition, explanation, and recovery planning–and how these processes influence the development of plans for using an interactive system.
