Abstract
The System/23 Datamaster CRT was designed to use a 7 by 9 character matrix. German standards indicate that the 7 by 9 matrix is unacceptable for use in the office sector. To accommodate the German standards a smaller (7 by 7) character matrix was developed. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of character matrix size on the legibility of CRT Displays. Two types of etched surface CRTs (nonglare) were also tested. The results indicated that neither size of character set nor type of CRT was found to have a significant effect on legibility.
