Abstract
Kodak disc cameras were designed to be as “decision-free” as a camera could be in today's technology. Many features have been included to implement this goal. An “always ready” flash system is among the features and employs no less than three methods of charging to be sure that it will have sufficient energy for flash at all times. The adequacy of these features was assessed in an earlier study by building results of a simulated use test into a mathematical model of flash performance. The “wake-up switch,” a fail-safe charging mechanism, was included in this earlier study and was helpful in providing flash charges but left some concerns regarding accidental actuation in certain circumstances. The current study describes a carrying test in which the designs of four different switch configurations were assessed. Recommendations were made for production switches to maximize performance and consumer satisfaction.
