A detailed case-study is presented of the systematic application of ergonomics to the design of computerized workstations. These workstations, for handling emergency calls, incorporate radio and telephone equipment as well as computer displays and keyboards. The use of systems analysis techniques, the preparation of performance specifications; the design and use of ergonomic rigs and the running of trials for evaluation of prototypes are discussed.
