Abstract
A number of current systems use television as a means of providing visual feedback. While considerable data have been collected regarding the influence of video system parameters on visual performance, these have not been systematically used to construct requirements and standards. This paper presents a discussion of the use of analytical methods based on existing operator performance data to establish monitor size requirements for a particular application. While the approach is presented in a specific system context, it is considered that the general method and data have wider applicability and that practical standards for television systems based on viewing requirements could be put forth.
