Job design in the service sector has received little attention yet. This paper describes the introduction of semi-autonomous work groups in a warehouse and distribution center of a Swiss supermarket chain. As an implementation strategy principles of participative job design were applied. Two cases are reported, and some analysis of the change process is given.
