A task analysis of the corpsman on board nuclear submarines is described. This analysis forms the basis for the determination of the feasibility of a shipboard computer aided diagnostic system which would permit the corpsman to interact with the computer as he would a medical consultant. The system would serve as a partial substitute for shore based facilities and medical personnel during missions requiring communication restrictions. Preliminary data is presented.
