Abstract
To provide job training efficiently and in a timely manner, organizations need to estimate the resources required for training accurately and in advance. This is true when developing training for existing jobs, but is particularly true when jobs are proposed to change significantly or when new jobs are planned. In these circumstances, the process of estimating training resources in advance is critical. This article describes a method for developing algorithms that can be used to estimate training costs throughout the instructional system design (ISD) cycle. Lessons learned from applying this process to an organization that was anticipating significant changes to a mission critical job are provided.
