Ambulatory care is one of the fastest growing sections of the healthcare industry and yet little research has been done on challenges that can exist within preoperative care for ambulatory surgery. The research that does exist is typically only pilot studies. This paper will explore three overarching challenges that have appeared in preoperative care: Team performance, patient absences, and record errors. This paper will provide a description of these challenges and provide recommendations for further research.
